Approximately 15-18% of all babies born are by Caesarean Section, a procedure where the child is delivered through an incision in the mothers abdomen.
It takes a woman's body over a year to recover from a Caesarean.
According to the Roman writer Pliny, Julius Caesar is said to have been born by a caesarean section.  Until most recently, Caesarean deliveries were performed as a last resort if the mother was dead or dying.

More babies are born abdominally than people lose gall bladders and tonsils.
