Matilda (Cambridge Theatre, 2011), Hamilton (Victoria Palace Theatre, 2017) and Cabaret (Playhouse Theatre, 2021) share the record for the most Laurence Olivier awards won by a musical production. At the 45th edition of the awards in London, UK, on 10 April 2022, the Playhouse’s revival of John Kander (music), Fred Ebb (lyrics) and Joe Masteroff’s (book) Tony Award-winning 1966 Broadway production won Best Musical Revival, Best Actor in a Musical (Eddie Redmayne), Best Actress in a Musical (Jessie Buckley), Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical (Elliot Levey), Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Musical (Liza Sadovy), Best Director (Rebecca Frecknall) and Best Sound Design (Nick Lidster). Notably, Cabaret triumphed in all four applicable acting categories – the first time a production had done so in the history of the Laurence Olivier Awards.

Cabaret was also nominated for Best Costume Design, Best Set Design, Best Theatre Choreographer and Best Lighting Design.
