Wizkid (Nigeria, b. Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun) won Artist of the Year in 2016-17 and 2021 at the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA). The singer/songwriter’s record-extending 2021 triumph was confirmed on 21 November, when the 7th edition of AFRIMA returned to the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos, Nigeria, for the first time in almost two years owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Chad’s Afrotronix (2014), Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz (2015), Nigeria’s Davido (2018) and Nigeria’s Burna Boy (2019) have also won Artist of the Year. Diamond Platnumz, Davido and Burna Boy were all on the shortlist for the 2021 award.
