Taylor Swift (USA) has released seven albums that have registered million-selling weeks on the US Billboard 200, based solely on traditional sales (CDs/vinyl/cassettes and digital album downloads): Speak Now (1.047 million on 13 November 2010); Red (1.208 million on 10 November 2012); 1989 (1.287 million on 15 November 2014); reputation (1.216 million on 2 December 2017); Midnights (1.140 million on 5 November 2022); 1989 (Taylor’s Version) (1.359 million on 11 November 2023); and The Tortured Poets Department (1.914 million on 4 May 2024). Adele has had three million-selling frames on the Billboard 200, but all with the same album (25).
The Tortured Poets Department (TTPD), Swift’s 14th US No.1 overall, was the 26th album to sell at least one million copies in a week in the USA since Luminate (formerly Nielsen SoundScan) began tracking sales in 1991. Backstreet Boys, Eminem and *NSYNC have all had two albums that reached seven-figure sales in a single week. Swift’s one-week tallies – all debut weeks – are for the albums’ pure (traditional) sales only. Overall, TTPD launched with 2.61 million equivalent album units on 4 May 2024 – the second-largest sales week on record, after Adele’s 25 (3.378 million in December 2015). TTPD logged 1.914 million traditional sales, 683,000 streaming equivalent albums (SEAs; equivalent to 891.34 million on-demand official streams of the 31 tracks) and 14,000 track equivalent albums (TEAs).
