As of 23 March 2024, seven of Ariana Grande’s (USA) nine US No.1 singles had debuted at the top of the chart: “Thank U, Next” (17 November 2018), “7 Rings” (2 February 2019), “Stuck with U” (with Justin Bieber; 23 May 2020), “Rain on Me” (with Lady Gaga; 6 June 2020), “Positions” (7 November 2020), “Yes, And?” (27 January 2024) and “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)” (23 March 2024).

Grande nudged ahead of Taylor Swift’s six No.1 debuts (2014-23) with the latest release from her No.1 album Eternal Sunshine, but is still two chart-topping starts behind Drake’s total of nine (2018-23).

In stark contrast, Grande’s collaborations with The Weeknd (“Save Your Tears” and “Die for You”), the only two of her nine US No.1s not to debut at the top, took 20 and 31 weeks, respectively, to reach their peak positions. The latter was the equal sixth-longest climb to No.1 in Hot 100 history.

As of the chart dated 20 April 2024, Grande had made the Hot 100 with 85 different tracks, 22 of which had reached the Top 10. “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)” was the 76th song to debut at No.1 on the Hot 100 since its inception on 4 August 1958.

Following Grande and Swift, Mariah Carey (1995-97) and Olivia Rodrigo (2021-23) have the next-best tallies of No.1 debuts among female artists, with three apiece.
