The world's highest pilgrimage is the 53-km (33-mile) route on Kailash (or Khangrinboqê) in western Tibet, which is at an altitude of 6,638 m (21,778 ft). The Mountain is sacred to followers of Buddhism, Jainism, Hinduism and of the pre-Buddhist religion, Bonpo.
