Two Phonecian vessels, built 2,700 years ago, were found by Dr. Robert Ballard (US) off the coast of Israel in June 1998.
Ballard also located the Tiantic in 1985 and the Bismarck in 1988. The two Phonecian vessels measure 58ft and 48ft in length, appear to have had a crew of six in addition to a team of oarsmen. The sea-faring Phonecians lived on the coast of North Africa from 2,300 to 300 BC.
