Most César award nominations for a film in a single year

On 26 January 2022, Illusions Perdues (Lost Illusions, France, 2021) picked up an unprecedented 15 nominations ahead of the 47th César Awards. The film, based on the novels of Honoré de Balzac (1799-1850), went on to win seven awards at the following month’s ceremony – held at Olympia in Paris, France – including Best Film for director Xavier Giannoli and producers Oliver Delbosc and Sidonie Dumas.

Nominations: Best Film (winner); Best Director (Xavier Giannoli); Best Supporting Actor (Vincent Lacoste – winner, and Xavier Dolan); Best Supporting Actress (Jeanne Balibar and Cécile de France); Most Promising Actor (Benjamin Voisin – winner); Most Promising Actress (Salomé Dewaels); Best Adaptation (winner); Best Cinematography (winner); Best Editing (Cyril Nakache); Best Sound (François Musy, Renaud Musy and Didier Lozahic); Best Costume Design (winner); Best Production Design (winner); Best Visual Effects (Arnaud Fouquet/Julien Meesters). Eight films had previously attracted 13 nominations, among them Cyrano de Bergerac (1991), Amélie (2002) and Un Prophète (2010).
