The foundation has raised more than $9 million (£5.4 million) net since 1989. The benefit included singers such as Madonna, Elton John and Billy Joel. The street sign outside Carnegie Hall was renamed 'Rainforest Way' during Rainforest Awareness Week, and the Empire State Building was lit up in green.
