In July 2003, the US government approved the payment of a $30 million (£16.4 million) reward to the informant who led US forces to Saddam Hussein's two eldest sons, Uday and Qusay, in Mosul, Iraq. The reward, $15 million (£8.2 million) for each, is the largest ever paid by the United States under its Rewards for Justice program. According to the Rewards for Justice website, since 1994, the State Department has paid about $10 million (£5.2 million) to 24 people who provided information that put 'terrorists' in jail or prevented acts of terror.
