Adrian Lyne's adaptation of Lolita (USA 1997) was produced on a budget of $58 million (35 million), and shown on TV on 2 August 1998. US rights were bought by cable company Showtime Networks after the movie controversially failed to gain a US theatrical release. Lolita was released in movie theatres three months later.
