At the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards on 12 September 2022, Lee Jung-jae (South Korea) won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of down-on-his-luck gambler Seong Gi-hun (Player 456), the main protagonist in Netflix’s survival smash Squid Game (2021–).

Lee Jung-jae, 49, was the first Korean/Asian actor to win the Emmy award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. In 2022, it was confirmed that he had been cast as one of the main characters in The Acolyte, the latest instalment in the Star Wars franchise. Jung-jae will also reprise his role as Seong Gi-hun in the much-anticipated second season of Squid Game.
