The world's highest paid TV news broadcaster is Katie Couric (USA) who earns $13 million (£8 million) per year as the host of NBC's Today (USA) news programme. In April 2006, Ms Couric announced her move to rival channel, CBS (USA), to begin as lead anchor and Managing Editor of Evening News later in 2006 - a move that will earn her $15 million (then £8.5 million) per year. The 4.5-year contract was signed in December 2001 and is reported to be worth $65 million (£40 million). Katie over-took fellow newsreader, Barbara Walters (USA), on the Forbes list of 2002.
