Bat-Ochiryn Ser-Od competed in his 11th consecutive World Athletics Championships marathon – held in Budapest, Hungary on 27 August 2023. He did not finish the race, after straining his leg stepping in a pothole. The 41-year-old runner had a championship-best finish of 29th, in Berlin 2009. He has also competed in five Olympic marathons.
