On 28 August 2022, Bad Bunny (Puerto Rico, b. Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio) became the sixth recipient of the Artist of the Year ad at the MTV Video Music Ads (VMAs), beating the likes of Drake, Ed Sheeran and event co-host Jack Harlow to the prize at the Prudential Center in Nek, New Jersey, USA.
Inaugurated in 2017 to replace the -specific Best Video ads, Artist of the Year had previously been won by Sheeran (2017), Camila Cabello (2018; the first Latin artist to take home the ad), Ariana Grande (2019), Lady Gaga (2020) and Justin Bieber (2021).
