Three Pez dispensers, a one-piece shiny Gold Elephant, a Mickey Mouse softhead and a headless dispenser embossed with the words PEZ-HAAS, were sold for US$6,000 (then £3,660) each, a total of US$18,000 (then £10,980) by author and Pez dealer David Welch of Illinois, USA to an anonymous dealer, in May 1998. The dispensers were made in the late 1940s to early 1950s to dispense Pez sweets, which were invented in 1927 as an alternative to smoking.

The elephant is one of only a handful known, with other variations coming with a black or a gray head.

The Mickey Mouse dispenser with a soft head, was from one of about a dozen sets made with Disney licensed characters, and is the rarest of the group as Disney rejected the idea  of soft head dispensers and they never made it into production.

The third dispenser, a rare Pez-Box ad regular for Pez Haas is even rarer as its side is embossed with the words Pez-Haas and is the only known example.
