Maria Spelterini crossed a wire over Niagara on 8 July 1876. Four days later she crossed wearing peach baskets strapped to her feet. On 19 July she crossed blindfolded, while on 22 July she walked across manacled. Her final crossing was on 26 July. As of November 2014, she remains the only woman to have crossed Niagara Falls.
