Sally Minty-Gravett (Jersey) swam across the English Channel at least once per decade for six decades in a row between the age of 18 (in 1975) and 65 (2022). She most recently swam the route from Shakespeare Beach near Dover, Kent, UK, to Cap Gris-Nez, France, in 15 hours 30 minutes on 7 August 2022, as ratified by the Channel Swimming & Piloting Federation.
Minty-Gravett (b. 16 July 1957) is also the oldest woman to complete a two-way swim of the English Channel to date, aged 59 years 45 days when she completed the double crossing from Dover, UK, to Calais, France, and back on 29–30 August 2016 in 36 hours 26 minutes. That year, Sally was awarded an MBE for her services to swimming.
In total, “Dolfin Sal” has traversed the English Channel eight times to date.
On her latest outing, she raised over £21,500 for the Jersey Alzheimer’s Association and the Jersey Lifeboat Association.
