Heavy-metal band Five Finger Death Punch (USA) scored eight consecutive No.1 hits on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart in 2018-22. “Sham Pain” was the airplay leader on 8 September 2018 and was followed to the top of the chart by “When the Seasons Change” (2019), “Blue on Black” (2019; feat. Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Brantley Gilbert & Brian May), “Inside Out” (2020), “A Little Bit Off” (2020), “Living the Dream” (2021), “Darkness Settles In” (2021) and “AfterLife”, which climbed to No.1 on 11 June 2022. “AfterLife” was the band’s 12th Mainstream Rock Airplay No.1. Their first was “Coming Down” in 2012.
After “Coming Down”, Five Finger Death Punch took “Lift Me Up” (2013), “Battle Born” (2013-14) and “Wash It All Away” (2016) to No.1 before embarking on their run of eight consecutive Mainstream Rock Airplay chart-toppers. Disturbed (2015-19) and Shinedown (2017-22) had previously shared the accolade with seven No.1s in a row. Disturbed’s “Hold on to Memories” (No.3 in 2020) ended their sequence of seven straight No.1s, but Shinedown has a chance to reclaim a share of the record with “Daylight” climbing to No.2 on the latest chart (dated 6 August 2022) and poised to become their eighth successive No.1.
Five Finger Death Punch formed in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 2005. Their current line-up (as of 2022) is Ivan Moody (lead vocals), Andy James (lead guitar/backing vocals), Zoltan Bathory (rhythm guitar), Chris Kael (bass/backing vocals) and Charlie Engen (drums). AfterLife, slated for release on 19 August 2022, will be the band’s ninth studio album. They had charted 30 times on Mainstream Rock Airplay as of 6 August 2022, with all but three tracks making the Top 10. One of those three, “Times Like These”, climbed 15 places to No.21 on 6 August and was looking to extend the quintet’s run of consecutive No.1s to nine.
