In his sixth Olympic Games, Sergei Martynov (Belarus) scored 705.5 points in the men's 50 m rifle to win Olympic gold at the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich, London, on 3 August 2012. 44-year-old Martynov's previous best at the Olympic Games were bronze medals at Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004. The previous record was held by Christian Klees (Germany), who scored 704.8 points at the Atlanta Olympic Games on 25 July 1996 to win the gold medal. This category is listed by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) as a FWR (Final World Record). FWRs can only be set in Olympic competition, whereas the ISSF's World Records (WR) can be set in any sanctioned competition.
