The world's most successful TV soap-opera was <em>Dallas</em> (CBS, USA), which began in 1978 as a mini-series. By 1980 it was watched by an estimated 83 million people in the USA, giving it a then record 76% share of the television audience and, had been seen in more than 90 countries, often in locally dubbed versions. The last episode was broadcast in the USA on 3 May 1991.
