The heaviest marine crustacean is the American or North Atlantic lobster (Homarus americanus). On 11 February 1977, a specimen weighing 20.14 kg (44 lb 6 oz) and measuring 1.06 m (3 ft 6 in) from the end of the tail-fan to the tip of the largest claw was caught off Nova Scotia, Canada and later sold to a New York restaurant owner.
