The fruit fly (Drosophila bifurca) fires a tight coil of sperm which measures 6.35 cm (2.5 in) long every time it mates. The fly's testes are built for the job – they make up 10% of its body mass.
This measurement refers to the length if the coil was uncoiled. The coil contains more than one sperm.
