Who
Click Beetle
What
30 centimetre(s)
When
01 January 0001
The click beetle (Athous haemorrhoidalis) averages 400 g when `jack-knifing' into the air to escape predators. One example measuring 1.2 cm (0.5 in) in length and weighing 40 mg (0.00014 oz) which jumped to a height of 30 cm (11.8 in) was calculated to have endured a peak brain deceleration of 2300 g by the end of the movement.

It was first classified in 1801. They can leap into the air at more than 2 metres per second. The adults live around 4-11 months.
