Cheeta the chimpanzee, famed for his appearances in the 1930's and 40's Tarzan films starring Johnny Weissmuller and Maureen O'Sullivan, is the world's oldest living primate, being born in 1932. Cheeta died in December 2011 aged 80.

(Cheeta's birthday is considered April 1932). He was reported alive and well celebrating his 74th birthday in April 2006.

Cheeta was born in Liberia, West Africa in 1932 and was brought to the USA in April of that same year by Tony Gentry.  After Mr. Gentry passed away in 1991, Cheeta went to live with Dan Westfall (Gentry's nephew) in Palm Springs where he now resides.  He has been enshrined in the Palm Springs Walk of Stars and currently promotes C.H.E.E.T.A.
