The best selling single by a group is "Rock Around the Clock" which sold an unaudited 25 million copies. Written by James E. Myers (USA), a.k.a. Jimmy DeKnight, and Max C. Freedman (USA), it was recorded on 12 April 1954 by Bill Haley (1925–1981) and his Comets (USA). Bill Haley became the first Rock 'n' Roll star to enter the charts with music he'd actually written and recorded himself, the first to own his own record label (Holiday Records) and recording company and the first to appear on a network televison show.
