For 105 consecutive weeks between 12 December 2019 and 9 December 2021 – almost two full years – “Blinding Lights” by the Canadian singer/songwriter/producer The Weeknd (b. Abel Tesfaye) was camped in the UK Official Singles Chart.
Two other enduring hits topped out at exactly 100 consecutive weeks: “Someone You Loved” by Lewis Capaldi (17 January 2019–10 December 2020) and “Heat Waves” by Glass Animals (14 January 2021–8 December 2022). “Blinding Lights” snatched the record outright from Capaldi on 11 November 2021, when it dipped to No.68 after 101 weeks on the Official Singles Chart.
Completing the Top 5 are “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran (95 consecutive weeks between 5 July 2014 and 21 April 2016) and “Pompeii” by Bastille (92 consecutive weeks between 9 March 2013 and 6 December 2014).
“Blinding Lights” was named the UK’s biggest song of 2020 by the Official Charts Company, shifting 2.2 million combined units during the year, including 250 million audio and video streams.
The record-shattering chart streak of “Blinding Lights” included eight non-consecutive weeks at No.1, six weeks at No.2 and 22 weeks in the Top 10.
Among numerous other achievements, it is also the most streamed track on Spotify, racking up 5.02 billion plays as of 15 September 2025.
