The world's most honoured entertainer was Bob Hope ( Leslie Townes Hope b.London 29 May 1903 d. Toluca Lake, California 27 July 2003). He had been uniquely awarded the USA's highest civilian honours—the Medal of Freedom (1969); the Congressional Gold Medal (1963); the Medal of Merit (1966); the Distinguished Public Service Medal (1973) and the Distinguished Service Gold Medal (1971). In 1976 he received an Hon. CBE and was appointed Hon. Brigadier of the US Marine Corps. He was awarded an honorary Knighthood by Queen Elizabeth II in May 1998. He also had 44 honorary degrees.  During his acting career spanning over 80 films, he was awarded with five Oscars, four Honoury (1941, 1945, 1953 and 1966) and the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award (1960); two Emmys (1966 and 1987) and two Golden Globes (1958 and 1963).

He has four stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. (Motion Pictures, Radio, TV and Theatre)

He entertained the US troops overseas in every war from World War II to the Gulf War.
