Highest-grossing film at the domestic box office (opening weekend)

The third instalment of Marvel's main Avengers story arc – Avengers: Infinity War (USA, 2018) – grossed $257,698,183 (£186.9 million; €212.3 million) in the USA during the weekend of its release on 27–29 April 2018, as verified by The Numbers.

This surpassed the $247,966,675 (£166.3 million) taken in the USA by Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens (USA, 2015), during the weekend of its release on 18–20 December 2015.

Infinity War also took the global opening weekend box-office record, with a worldwide gross of $640,398,183 (£464.5 million; €527.7 million).

This record is based on the nominal gross value which means without adjusting for inflation.
