The highest fee paid for the film rights to a single creative work is the $75 million (£57.3 million) that Disney reportedly paid for the exclusive rights to Lin-Manuel Miranda's Broadway musical Hamilton (USA, 2020). The deal, which was revealed in February 2020, brought the filmed original-cast performance of the show exclusively to the Disney+ streaming service on 3 July 2020.
Studio bosses originally planned to release the film in cinemas on 15 October 2021, but then decided to bring this date forward, and to put it on the Disney+ streaming service, due to COVID-19 and its related lockdowns.
