The most expensive single prop ever used for a movie was the full scale replica of a Spanish galleon built for Roman Polanskis Pirates (US/Tun 1986) at a cost of £7 million ($10,271,100). Designed by Pierre Guffrey, its construction kept 2,000 Maltese shipyard workers in jobs for a whole year.
