The longest speech accepting an Oscar award is 5 min 36 sec by Adrien Brody (USA) after receiving the Best Actor award at the 97th Academy Awards, on 2 March 2025.

Having won an Oscar for his role in the three-and-a-half-hour film The Brutalist, Brody gave a speech that mirrored the movie's epic runtime, opening with a joking comment that "they're already counting me down".

In the film, he stars as a Hungarian-Jewish Holocaust survivor who moves to the United States and struggles to achieve the American Dream, until a wealthy client changes his life.

Before taking to the microphone, Brody blew a kiss towards the audience and did the same after finishing his speech. If including these air-kisses, the address stretches to 5 min 40 seconds!

Brody also won Best Actor in 2003 for his role in The Pianist, making him the youngest Oscar winner for Best Actor at the age of 29 years and 343 days old. He has appeared in many films, including King of the Hill (1993), The Thin Red Line (1998), The Village (2004), King Kong (2005), and Predators (2010).
