Green slime has been a long-standing tradition at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, but at the 35th edition of the show, held at Santa Monica Airport’s Barker Hangar in California, USA, on 9 April 2022, a goo-tastic 1,000 slimings were performed on the night. Hosts Miranda Cosgrove and Rob Gronkowski, singer Charlie Puth, Favorite Social Music Star winner Dixie D’Amelio, performing rappers Jack Harlow and Kid Cudi, Favorite Male Creator winner MrBeast (aka Jimmy Donaldson) and the University of Southern California Marching Band were all coated in green gunge. Schools, celebrity correspondents and iconic US locations were also slimed during the show, with an on-screen counter totting up each gunging as it happened.
Nickelodeon’s Instagram page announced the record-setting gungefest: “1,000 slimings! Cheers to the slimiest #KCA to date”
Nickelodeon already held records for the most people slimed in 24 hours (3,309) and the most people simultaneously slimed (3,026), both set by Nickelodeon Australia in 2014 and 2012, respectively, and the most people slimed simultaneously online (195), set by the KCA’s on 13 March 2021 when the show was unable to take place in a live setting owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
