The largest land-based prop ever constructed for a movie was the 18.29 m (60 ft) long, 12.19 m (40 ft) high Wooden Horse of Troy used in Robert Wise's Helen of Troy (USA/Italy 1954). It weighed 81,280 kg (179,191 lb) and 30 full grown trees and over 453.6 kg (1,000 lb) of nails were needed to build it.

A modern air conditioning system was fitted to save the 25 occupants from heat prostration.

The 2004 film Troy, used a steel and fibre-glass horse, held together with nails and rope, which was 11.58 m (38 ft) tall and weighed 11 tonnes (24,250 lb).  Warner Bros. presented this to the Turkish town of Canakkale in November 2004, where archaeologists believe the ancient besieged city once stood.
