The Burning of the Red Lotus Temple (China 1928-31), adapted by the Star Film Co. from a newspaper serial Strange Tales of the Adventurer in the Wild Country by Shang K'ai-jan, was released in 18 feature-length parts over a period of three years. Although never shown publicly in its 27-hr entirety, some cinemas put on all-day performances of half-dozen parts in sequence.
