The console with the largest catalogue of physically released games is the Playstation 2, produced by Sony (JPN). Between the console's launch on 4 March 2000 and the release of the last compatible game (Pro Evolution Soccer 2014) on 13 November 2013, at least 4,380 unique titles were released for the console.
There is some confusion as to exactly how many games there were for the platform in total. In a 2011 press release, Sony claimed a figure of 10,828 titles, but this figure included each regional release as a unique game (i.e. counting the European, North American and Japanese releases of the same game as different titles). The 4,380 figure represents the current consensus of the videogame collecting community, but additional titles are being discovered all the time. Sony's single-region statistics suggest that the true figure might be somewhere in the region of 5,000 games.
