Opener Alyssa Healy (Australia) hit a destructive 170 off just 138 balls, including 26 fours, in the final of the ICC Women’s World Cup (WWC) against England at Hagley Oval in Christchurch, New Zealand, on 3 April 2022. Healy obliterated the top male (149) and female (107 not out) scores in a World Cup final on her way to setting yet another landmark – the most runs scored by a player in a single WWC tournament (509).
Adam Gilchrist’s 149, off 104 balls, for Australia against Sri Lanka at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, on 28 April 2007 had been the highest individual score in an ICC World Cup final until Healy’s intervention. The women’s record had stood at a more modest 107 not out (128 balls), set by Karen Rolton for Australia against India at SuperSport Park in Centurion, South Africa, on 10 April 2005. Losing 2022 finalist Nat Sciver’s 121-ball 148 not out was the third-highest score by a player in an ICC World Cup decider.
Healy’s first-wicket stand of 160 with Rachael Haynes – who finished the tournament just 12 runs shy of her opening partner on 497 – fired Australia to their 50-over total of 356 for 5. No previous WWC final had witnessed a higher batting partnership or a higher team total.
