Shortest theatrical run

- Who
- Ecarté, The Intimate Revue
- Where
- United Kingdom (London)
- When
- 04 December 1870
In London theatre history, two plays are reputed to have ended their theatrical run mid-way through their opening night. The first is Ecarté, written by Lord Francis Needham, which descended into chaos during the first act on 4 December 1870. The performances were described as "deficient in anything but confidence”, and the only cast member who got any applause was a dog. The second was The Intimate Revue, a comedy musical that opened (and closed) on 11 March 1930. Reviewers mention actors forgetting their lines, fights breaking out between the stagehands and the band, and a set so oversized the chorus line was in danger of falling off the stage.
