Most BAFTA nominations for a sci-fi film

On 3 February 2022, Denis Villeneuve’s epic sci-fi adventure Dune (USA, 2021) received 11 nominations ahead of the 75th edition of the British Academy Film Awards on 13 March 2022. This tied Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity (USA/UK, 2013) for the most nominations for a sci-fi film in BAFTAs history. Gravity claimed six BAFTA awards on 16 February 2014: Outstanding British Film, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Special Visual Effects, Best Original Music and Best Sound.

Dune’s 11 nominations were for Best Film, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Casting, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, Best Editing, Best Special Visual Effects, Best Make-Up & Hair, Best Original Score and Best Sound.
