Dame Judi Dench (UK) has won six BAFTA film awards: Most Promising Newcomer to Leading Film Roles for Four in the Morning (UK, 1965); Best Actress in a Supporting Role for A Room with a View (UK, 1985), A Handful of Dust (UK, 1988) and Shakespeare in Love (UK, 1998); and Best Actress in a Leading Role for Mrs Brown (UK, 1997) and Iris (UK, 2001). Dame Judi has received a total of 15 nominations for the UK film industry’s most prestigious awards show across five decades, the latest coming in 2013 for her portrayal of Irish woman Philomena Lee in the British drama Philomena, in which she starred alongside Steve Coogan.
Dame Judi’s other accolades include a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Shakespeare in Love and four BAFTA TV awards for Talking to a Stranger (1966), A Fine Romance – Series 1/The Cherry Orchard/Going Gently (1981), A Fine Romance – Series 4 (1984) and The Last of the Blonde Bombshells (2000). In 2001, she received the BAFTA Fellowship lifetime achievement award.
