The tree with the hardest wood is Acacia cambagei, which, using the Janka test, records a value of 2,027 kg (4,469 lb) for the tangential face. The tree can attain 12.2 m (40 ft) in height with a girth of 102 cm (40 in). In test results from Wood Handbook: Wood as an Engineering Material, hardness is measured by the load required to embed a 0.444 inch ball to one half its diameter in the wood. This test (known as the Janka test) is one of the best measures to determine the ability of wood species to withstand denting and wear.
