Born in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil on 3 March 1978, Formiga is the country's most-capped player and accumulated a total of 234 appearances. With Brazil she won two Olympic silver medals (in 2004 and 2008) and was a runner-up at the 2007 World Cup. She won three Pan American Games and six Copa América Feminino titles.
