The longest-running visual effects studio is Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), which was founded on May 26, 1975 by George Lucas. It was formed during the making of Star Wars: A New Hope (1977). ILM has spanned the optical (analog) and digital (CG) eras of visual effects. The studio is now part of The Walt Disney Company after being acquired by the corporation as part of its purchase of Lucasfilm.
