The longest single visual effects shot is the opening shot of Alfonso Cuarón's Gravity (USA/UK, 2013), which is 12 minutes 46 seconds long. The shot, which plays out as a "oner" without any apparent cuts, depicts the astronauts, including characters played by Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, servicing the Hubble space telescope until they are hit by a debris field. A unique combination of previsualization, cinematography, live action photography with LED light walls, and visual effects from visual effects studio Framestore, made this nearly 13-minute one-shot possible.

The 12 minutes 46 seconds is calculated from the moment the view of the Earth appears, to the first "cut" in the sequence, which occurs as Sandra Bullock's character tumbles away from the camera, and the shot cuts to a wider view of the Earth again.
