The oldest Olympic gold medallist (female) is Eliza Pollock (USA, b. 24 October 1840), who won the archery women’s team round aged 63 years 333 days at the 1904 Summer Olympics in St Louis, Missouri, USA, on 21 September 1904.
Pollock was a member of the Cincinnati Archers team (alongside Matilda “Lida” Howell, Emily Woodruff and Leonie Taylor) that won gold at the 1904 women’s team round. Despite their being the only team in the competition, their gold medal is acknowledged by the International Olympic Committee. Pollock also won two bronze medals in St Louis: in the Double Columbia round on 19 September and the Double National round on 20 September.
