Gloveman Alex Carey (Australia) took eight catches in the First Ashes Test against England at Brisbane Cricket Ground in Australia on 8 and 10-11 December 2021 – three in the first innings and five in the second.
Australia’s Brian Taber (1966) and England’s Chris Read (1999) also made eight dismissals on debut, but both hauls included a stumping.
Carey was a late Ashes replacement for the former Australian captain/wicketkeeper Tim Paine, who stood down and took an immediate break from cricket amid an investigation of improper off-field conduct.
