The tallest load-bearing stone columns in the world are those measuring 21 m. (69 ft) in the Hall of Columns of the Temple of Amun at Karnak, opposite Thebes on the Nile, the ancient capital of Upper Egypt.
They were built in the 19th dynasty in the reign of Rameses II c.1270BC.
