The oldest surviving mannequin or dress form is a life-size torso and head discovered in the tomb of the ancient Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun (c.1341–1323 BCE). The figure was stored near a chest of clothing, and is thought to have been used to display or fit clothes for the young pharaoh. There are dowel holes in the shoulders which suggest that the mannequin originally had arms.
