The largest corporate takeover in history occurred when German conglomerate Mannesmann merged with Vodafone AirTouch of Britain in February 2002. Under the terms of the £112 billion (then approx. $159 billion) deal, Mannesmann shareholders received 49.5% of the merged company, with Vodafone providing 58.96 of its shares for each Mannesmann share.
