The tallest human pyramid consisted of 9 levels and was 12 m (39 ft) high. It was completed when Josep-Joan Martínez Lozano of the Colla Vella dels Xiquets mounted it at Valls, Spain on 25 October 1981. The record was equalled by Pratap Sarnaik (India) and the Jai Jawan Govinda Pathak team reaching 9 levels and 13.34 m (43.79 ft) in height at TMC school ground, Thane, India, on 10 August 2012. Castellers de Vilafranca and Colla Vella dels Xiquets de Valls (both Spain) matched the 9 levels during the filming of the CCTV-Guinness World Records Special in Tarragona, Cataluna, Spain, on 7 October 2012. The was equalled again by Xiquets De Hangzhou (China) and Colla Vella (Spain) for CCTV-Guinness World Records Special in Deqing, Zhejiang, China, on 5 July 2015.

The pyramid measured 13 meters tall. 450 Chinese participants and 193 Spanish participants took part in the attempt.
